IN MEMORIUM: B.W.(Jordy) WALKER

Once again I am deeply saddened to report the loss of one our most dedicated and active Class members - in fact, I am not sure I have the words to do it adequately so please see below the circulation from his sister, Sacha.

In many respects Jordy was the Class. Sitting President, technical advisor...........and fount of all knowledge. A driving force not only in the World Class Association but also in Bermuda. Together with other stalwart members of the Class he was instrumental in pushing the Class in to the20th century and the development of fibreglass hulls, particularly after the disasterous fire that consumed the American molds. In Bermuda he almost single handedly was responsible for all but three of the fibreglass boats built on the island. Not content with that he was instrumental in shipping the molds to Scotland for yet another building project................and I have not mentioned the Bermuda Fitted dinghies that he built..............literally...........at 2 o/clock in the morning as his neighbours will attest.

Commodore of the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club and Chair of the International Match Racing Conference that turned in to the highly sucsessful World Match Racing Tour.

Jordy was involved in almost every aspect of sailing - I am sure I have left out way too many of the things for which he was responsible. Small in stature but a giant in every other way.

Jordy will be sorely missed by the Bermuda fleet and by the World Class Association. Our hearts go out to his family in this their hour of grief.

A gentleman, a scholar............and a treasured friend.

On your behalf I will convey the condolences of the Class to his family.

Robert Duffy
Interim President

Dear All,

For those of you who may not have heard, sadly Jordy Walker sailed peacefully off into the next world at about 10 a.m. yesterday, Saturday Dec. 11th – just in time for a normal Saturday race day but to also meet up again with his mate Dick Kempe!! He was surrounded by Mary and his three kids, Samantha, Blythe and Elizabeth at the end. They have been an amazing team that nursed him constantly both in Florida and at home after he returned two weeks ago by air ambulance. He will be missed terribly by his family and all his own siblings but it is a relief to all after the pain and suffering he has endured particularly this year.I want to thank all of you who visited him at the end to share a last moment and for all your well wishes and thoughts over the past few months. Your support has been much appreciated

A family burial will take place on Wednesday this week followed by a Memorial Service possibly on Thursday.
